Accountant with experience

We are seeking experienced Accountants to join our growing Finance Team. Reporting directly to the CFO, successful candidates will have a proven record of full-cycle accounting experience —from posting of daily transactions to month-end closing with basic analysis—on a timely and consistent basis.
They will have accounting experience in the construction industry and a solid understanding of job costing, holdbacks and common construction contract types .
They will have demonstrated ability to maintain good relations with a high volume of vendors and trades seeking payment, while meeting company cash-management needs.
They will possess above-average accuracy, attention to detail and impeccable record keeping . Initiative and a strong work ethic are also keys to success in this role.

EXPERIENCE

• A minimum of 7 years overall experience at an intermediate to senior level
• No less than 5 years experience handling full-cycle accounting responsibilities, from daily transactions to month-end to year-end closing
• No less than 2 years experience in a construction or project-based company; alternatively, comparable exposure in a public accounting setting
• At least 2 years experience in the use of an ERP system (CMiC, Viewpoint, Jonas or similar)

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Full-cycle accounting: posting daily transactions, month-end close, generating financial reports with analysis of variances, where required
• Ensuring all recurring entries are posted consistently and on time, prepaid and accrual accounts are maintained, recurring deadlines are always met
• Preparation of month-end reports and variance analysis for CFO, consistently and on time
• Complete management of the A/P accounting cycle: batching, coding, approvals, posting, payment, filing; correspondence with trades seeking payment, managing expectations
• Verifying vendor account status, ensuring accounts are settled or that outstanding balances correspond with vendor records
• Preparation and processing of construction progress draws for clients in accordance with contract requirements, following up for collection
• A/P and A/R holdback management, preparation of Statutory Declarations
• Following up with vendors, clients or other team members to obtain outstanding information and consistently ensuring resolution of all outstanding matters/discrepancies
• Maintaining accurate notes and documentation where necessary to facilitate future reference for peculiar or extraordinary items
• Documenting department processes and procedures to promote consistency and facilitate future training
• Compiling year-end package, reports and analysis, where required, under CFO’s direction

EDUCATION

• CA, CGA or CMA designation

COMPENSATION AND REWARDS

• Annual starting salary range: $60,000 to $70,000 commensurate with experience and ability

Coldbox is currently based in Vaughan, ON and will be moving to Burlington, ON (North Service Road/QEW) by August 2016.
